It depends on how bad the warts are. There is prescription medication your doctor can prescribe you. Aldara cream and Condylox cream work really well and are fairly inexpensive. You can apply either one of these medications at your own home at your convenience. You have to give the medication some time though. I used Aldara cream 10 months ago when I had genital warts and it took a little over a month for them to completely disappear. If this doesn’t work, there is a stronger medication that the doctor can apply at the doctors office.
If the warts are more severe you may need to have them be removed with surgery. The doctor may want to freeze or burn them off.
And, no, cervical cancer can NOT affect men. HPV can cause penile and anal cancer in men though, but this is REALLY rare. The main concern with HPV is the cervical cancer, which only affects women. Cervical cancer is the second most common kind of cancer in women (after breast cancer) and kills about 4,000 women a year!
Since you have been with your partner for more than 3 years now, chances of them already having it are REALLY good. HPV is one of the most common STDs. Since there is no test for men to detect HPV though, it’s pretty impossible for him to know if he has it or not. Men usually find out they have HPV by developing warts. This can take months and even years sometimes for them to develop and they have to have that kind of HPV that causes warts. There are over 100 different kinds of HPV and only a handful actually cause warts. The easiest way for a woman to find out if she has HPV is by getting a pap smear done. This is the best thing a woman can do to detect any early signs of abnormal growth on the cervix, which can eventually turn into cervical cancer.
