Super Glue Warts
Have you ever regretted a medical choice for your child?
I made my very first (and hopefully last) trip to the emergency room with my 3 year old son on Thursday night. He had slipped in the bathroom and busted his chin on the counter. He was terrified and wouldn’t let anyone even look at the wound, let alone touch him. We decided to do liquid stitches (like super glue) instead of actual stitches. I thought it would be less traumatic. Now, the wound isn’t healing as “nicely” as I would like and I regret not getting the stitches. I feel awful. Even worse than I did when it initially happened. Anyone else ever feel this way or am I just being a worry-wart?
You can’t beat yourself up over it. It is too early to know how it will look and research actually shows that the glue produces better results cosmetically than stitches. So your heart actually led you to the decision that you would have probably made if you had consulted with cosmetic surgeons or had time to do a bunch of internet research. I linked a couple articles below for you to check out about the benefits of the glue over stitches.
Wait for about three months or so and if it is still not looking better, you can take him to a cosmetic surgeon to learn more options. But I bet you will be amazed at how well he has healed and how good it looks.
Anytime you make a medical decision for a child, you will always wonder what would have happened if you had made another choice. That is just “mommy guilt” that most mothers feel and there isn’t much that you can do about it!
Take care and don’t stress!
