Plantar Warts Cure

Recalcitrant Plantar Wart?

I have a very stubborn wart on the plantar surface of my heel. Its about 1.5 inches in diameter. Actually its about 4000 little Warts all combined into this horrible large, painful mass. I have had it frozen 8 times, with aboslutely no success (I think it actually just made the wart angry). And I have been using 40% salicylic acid paste for over a year now. There is apparently no easy fix for this one.

I have read about several different treatments…. lasers, tagamet, bleomycin injections….

what in the world will help this wart? Is there any podiatrists out there that have a magic cure? at this point, I’m pretty much looking at amputation as a solution. I’m in pain, and my achilles tendon is actually shorter on that side from limping for the past 2 years.

Please help.

I can’t do duct tape as I’m allergic to latex. So that’s not an option.

Nightmare! Verrucae are the bane of any podiatrist’s life (& some of our patients’)!

You could look at surgical excision, but of course that carries the risk of scarring, as does electrodessication.

I assume you’ve been keeping the skin down over the area using a file/emery board? It can be the overlying skin build-up that gets painful to walk on. DO bear in mind that sometimes the treatments themselves can contribute to the pain!

If you’re allergic to latex, you could try a non-latex occlusive tape or film – anything that will trap moisture and lead to maceration of the tissue.

Bleomycin isn’t much used in the UK (or at least, not in the National Health Service), so I can’t comment on its effectiveness.

I have to confess that I tend to go for the simplest option and try to offload the area with an appropriate insole, but I’m not sure how easy this would be for a wart of the mosaic type you describe.

I should add that sometimes they become more painful just before they disappear (but not always).

Sorry I don’t have a magic cure – but I do know of one podiatrist who claimed excellent results by harnessing the power of the mind. Visualise it gone!!

Good luck
