All About Warts

As a virus spread by contact, warts are fairly common. The virus causing warts is human papillomavirus, or known better as HPV. This is the same virus that may lead to cervical cancer; however, having a wart does not mean you have cancer or will get cancer.

A large amount of the population has experienced one type of wart or another. Although there are different types of warts, they are all similar. Warts are caused by cells grouping together and may have a dark center where blood vessels have clotted. They are spread easily through sharing of towels or similar objects, a cut in the skin or through an open wound. If you have a wart, use preventive measures to assure it is not spread to another individual.

Although warts are not dangerous, they can be irritating and even painful. Learning about the different types of warts and treating them is a great start. Also, practicing good hygiene such as not sharing towels and washing your hands, is the best way to avoid warts.

There are four common types of warts and although they have similarities, each has distinctive characteristics.

The most common type of wart a raised group of cells which resemble cauliflower bunches. They are normally skin toned, but may be somewhat darker. Hands and fingers are the location they are typically found. If you have broken skin, such as a hangnail or callous, you may well develop a wart if you have exposed to the virus. As irresistible as it may be, avoid picking the wart.

The second type of wart is the flat wart. Flat warts may be found anywhere on the body, especially the face. They seldom hurt, but for vanity reasons are the most feared. Children often have flat wart on their face, and adults tend to have them where hair normally grows. Treatment options vary, but facial warts need to be inspected and removed by a licensed physician or dermatologist. Flat warts range in numbers, varying from very few to hundreds. Although not attractive, these warts are harmless.

The most painful wart is the plantar wart. They appear on the bottoms of the feet and are painful when walking or standing. They generally are not raised like the common wart, but are flatter due to the pressure they receive. Plantar warts, like other warts, may disappear on their own; however, if they are painful for you, it is best to have them removed.

Transmitted through sexual contact with an infected partner, the genital warts may cause more problems than the other types. These warts are flesh colored, grow in groups resembling cauliflower heads and may be painful. They can be found on the genitalia or around the anus. Having genital warts puts an individual at risk for non-menstrual bleeding during or after intercourse, painful intercourse, severe itching and discomfort. Genital warts, like all sexually transmitted diseases, may be avoided by practicing safe sex with your partner.

Although unflattering and a nuisance, warts are nothing to fear. With research and possibly a trip to the doctor of pharmacy, you can easily treat your warts. Remember, however, warts tend to reoccur and treatment time varies per individual and circumstance.

Nutrition to reduce risk of HPV

There is no magic diet, no special fruit or vegetable that will make you impervious to HPV. There’s no way to reduce risk of contracting HPV by 100%, as even the HPV vaccine only protects against the high risk forms that can lead to cancer and so on. That said, you can make some simple changes to your diet to improve your immune system, so as to greatly reduce your risk of contracting HPV, and, should you contract HPV, your immune system will be able to rid your body of the infection that much more quickly.

In fact, let’s forget about HPV for a minute and just consider this: If you eat healthy, you will feel better.

A lot of health food people get it wrong. Eating better isn’t about living longer, it’s not about avoiding foods that will “kill you” (no food can really kill you unless you’re suffering from serious obesity or blood pressure and cholesterol problems) it’s about making the years you have available to you more enjoyable. If you eat well, you will be in a better mood, as nutrition plays a vital part in maintaining mental health. If you eat well, you’ll be stronger, faster, less tired, you’ll feel more comfortable and look better in your own body, your skin will look and feel better, your bones will be stronger, you’ll get sick less often, and you will be happier. You will live longer, as well, but the real point is that, in the here and now, you can improve your quality of life by leaps and bounds by making a few simple dietary changes.

Fruits and vegetables

Here’s the basic rule of fruits and vegetables: There’s almost no such thing as too much.

You may have heard of the supposed “superfruits” which have become pretty trendy these days, but honestly, most of them aren’t much stronger than your average orange or apple. However, if an exotic flavour is enough to get you eating more fruits, go for it.

Look for fruits especially high in vitamin C, most obviously, the orange.

As for vegetables, try just switching sugary, salty snacks out with salads. Play around with different combinations and lighter dressings until you have something you like. Salads mainly provide fiber, which can help to keep your system clean and flush out excess waste. This can be enormously helpful in improving your immune system and preventing colon cancer.

Water

It sounds like a lot, but try to drink about a gallon a day. Water doesn’t contain vitamins or anything, but it works as a sort of lubrication for your body and basically improves all facets of your biological functions.

Protein

You do need protein to keep your immune system and your skin strong to help fight off HPV infection. Try to avoid red meat, though. Something to keep in mind, pork is actually one of the safest, healthiest meats available. It gets a bad name, and certainly, bacon is probably the worst food you can eat, but it digests more easily than beef and is less greasy. If you can get more protein from beans or fish, that’s even better.

Exercise

Nutrition only goes so far. You can have a perfect diet, but if you don’t keep yourself active, your immune system won’t be strong enough to deal with an HPV infection quickly and effectively. Stay fit. If you can make time for some daily situps and pushups, great. If not, at the very least you should take a walk every day.

Can Skin Moles Develop Into a Cancerous Growth

Skin Moles are extremely common. In fact, most adults have fifteen to twenty in a variety of places on their body. Some may have much more. Most of the skin moles appear during the first 20 years of the person’s life.

They are classified as a tumor and as such are the most common tumor among humans. The large majority of them is harmless and will not cause any problem except perhaps cosmetic problems.

Some can however be precancerous and can develop into very dangerous types of cancer. Your physician is the only one that can diagnose the danger of a growth. If a skin mole keeps coming back, it may be indicative of a possible melanoma.

Even though that sounds scary, most growths are perfectly harmless. The harmful or dangerous ones are referred to as dysplastic nevi. These are the ones that can eventually become melanoma. These atypical growths are most common in people with a genetic predisposition.

Here are some signs that your skin mole might be dangerous. This is not a complete list. If you suspect something more, you should contact your physician right away.

Cancerous skin moles may possess one, some, or all of the following qualities:

• Larger than an eraser on a pencil

• Inconsistent shape or color

• Spontaneously bleed

• Painful or itchy

• Changes in size and color

• Inflammatory changes that cannot be justified by an external factor.

If you are concerned about a skin mole being cancerous or dangerous, only your physician will be able to put your mind completely at ease. The sooner you contact a physician; the better off you will be if the skin mole is dangerous.
