A wart is a small growth on the skin that is caused by a virus, but is harmless. The virus that causes warts are a part of the HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) family. The virus can be transmitted from person to person or to other parts of the body. Warts can form on hands, feet, and more. Kids often will get them on the soles of their feet, fingers or hands.
Women, young adults, and children are the highest population to contract warts. Roughly 10 percent of the population has at least one wart. HPV can have over fifty five different variations and each one tends to form on a particular part of the body. Some warts will appear on the skin while others can manifest in the genital area.
The virus get into the body by entering the skin or mucus membranes. It takes up to eight months to see any symptoms. The warts are often skin colored and rough textured but others are flat, smooth and dark. In order to find the best remedy for the wart, you need to know which type of virus you’ve contracted. Some warts appear again and again because the skin is now damaged and given easier access to the virus. Also, those with a lowered immune system are often more sensitive to HPV. Though a different virus, when one gets a cold sore on the lip, it is easier to have it return in that same spot due to damaged skin tissue.
Warts on the hands can grow on the fingers and nails as well as on the back of the hand. The wart will often appear on areas of skin that is broken, and can make people feel self-conscious because we use our hands for so many things. One remedy some recommend for removing these warts is applying duct tape. Apply the duct tape to the wart and leave it for one week, then soak it in water and file it with a pumice stone. Leave the wart uncovered overnight, then repeat the process until the wart on the hand is removed.
Another way people treat warts is to use milkweed or the liquid in dandelions. You can also get products over the counter with salicylic acid which will slowly peel them and heal the skin.
